Does the computer department in your business get the credit they deserve? Are they flawless? Do you tell them if they are? Or do you save your discussions with the IT department for times when things go wrong?
I am not a tech guy, but I have worked over the years with techies and been closely involved in the projects and the day to day challenges. I doubt if there is a “typical day” for anyone in a small business computer department. You could be working away on your priority list of big or small projects and then you get a call. “The till is down”, “my laptop has frozen”, “I lost a big document”, “email is down”.
Smooth running technology is crucial to our business and it is probably crucial to yours. When it is working, we don’t think about it (perhaps like our health?) but when it is not, our business may be dead in the water. And staff may be called upon at any time of day or night to fix it, even at midnight on a Saturday night.
The folks who look after our computer systems are dedicated to making our lives run more smoothly.
It’s all about the people.
