Big Business

GM filed for creditor protection in US. Over a billion dollars in unpaid bills. Imagine all the suppliers that will suffer when GM stops paying their bills, with the support of the court in this case. Maybe they weren’t paying anyway. This bail out leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Did the government bail out the forest or mining or fishing industries when times were tough? Would the government bail out your business and my business? What if they didn’t bail GM out? My guess is that some plants would run in bankruptcy and someone would buy them and run or close it. Isn’t that what is going to happen anyway? Why does the government (read that as US, you and I) have to get involved? Our customers demand that we continually improve. We’re close to our customers. The GM executives could not have been in touch with their customers or their staff either.

Monk Office, over the last two years, has put programs into place to reduce our use of gas and water and power and landfill. BC Hydro has programs in place to encourage consumers to use less power. This may seem counterintuitive for a sales rep at BC Hydro, but actually it is, of course, the right thing to do. Indeed, if BC Hydro can convince consumers to use less power, then there is more power available to supply the increase in demand and Hydro will not need to buy power.

We sell paper, and we want you to use less paper. Again, it may be counterintuitive, but it is the right thing to do. First of all, don’t print unless you have to. Try two monitors. This will reduce the times that you need to print. And be sure all your printers default to print double sided.

Remember I was in Australia a couple of weeks ago? I patted a kangaroo and ate a kangaroo (but not the same one).
